EV Connect and its site host partners have deployed nearly 400 EV Connect-managed stations under Southern California Edison’s Charge Ready pilot program. Charge Ready is SCE’s pilot program to get more electric vehicle charging stations installed in away-from-home locations where people park their cars for extended periods of time, such as workplaces, campuses, recreational areas and apartment and condominium complexes.
This summer EV Connect successfully participated in Charge Ready’s first demand-response events. The goal of these demand response events was to reduce electricity loads by 50 percent across all EV charging locations enrolled in the SCE Charge Ready program.
EV Connect reduced charge station loads at all of its EV Connect -managed charging locations using two methods. For stations with support for throttling, EV Connect throttled back charging rates by half during the events. When charge stations did not support adjustable charging speeds, EV Connect applied duty-cycling techniques, turning off half of a location’s charging stations for 15 minutes and then turning off the other half throughout each event.
SCE, New York Power Authority, Pacific Gas and Electric and a number of other utility companies have chosen EV Connect to power and manage their EV charging infrastructure.
