Can you switch your EV charge station network after your contract is up?
If you can’t, then your network isn’t using an open communication protocol like Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP).
Here is a nice definition of OCPP in Wikipedia: “The Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is an application protocol for communication between EV charging stations and a central management system, also known as a charging station network, similar to cell phones and cell phone networks.”
We think this open communication between the charge station network and the charge station itself is so important to all of us, that we wrote this short, two-page PDF about OCPP:
At EV Connect, our EV charging solutions use OCPP in order to give customers long-term flexibility and choice – without having to replace hardware when you switch networks. That flexibility leads to higher returns on your charge station investment and the lowest-possible cost of ownership.
We think the number one way to get the lowest-possible total cost of ownership from your EV charging stations is to not have to replace them when you want to switch networks!
