Colorado Electric Vehicle Tax Credits & Incentives | Charging Stations

Did you know that there are Colorado electric vehicle tax credits and incentives not just for the purchase of electric vehicles themselves, but for the purchase and installation of EV charging stations as well?

By deploying EV charging stations at your properties, you can help boost EV adoption while also attracting EV drivers as customers, tenants, and employees, while also potentially improving ROI on your parking lots through the monetization of your stations.

Charge Ahead Colorado

The Charge Ahead Colorado Program

The main Colorado electric vehicle incentive for buying and installing EV charging stations is called Charge Ahead Colorado. These grants can be used for Level 2 chargers as well as the newer DC fast chargers.

The total funding available per award covers 80 percent of the cost and installation of new charging units, up to a maximum of anywhere from $5,000 to $50,000 depending on the specifics of the project.

The Importance of Adding EV Charging Infrastructure

Right now, charging infrastructure is one of the bottlenecks limiting the adoption of electric vehicles in Colorado. Electric vehicle tax credits and other incentives are one of the state’s biggest tools for encouraging the deployment of new infrastructure.

According to Charge Ahead Colorado’s website, they are particularly interested in approving grants for workplaces, multi-family housing developments, and tourist destinations. But even if you’re a different type of business or organization, such as a hospital or college, non-tourist retail establishment, or vehicle fleet yard, it’s well worth putting in an application.

Apply in January, May, or October

Colorado typically accepts Charge Ahead Colorado grant applications three times a year, during January, May, and October.
